For the third straight year, the LPGA Playoffs will culminate at the ADT Championship. The LPGA Playoffs 2008 is a yearlong competitive structure that splits the official LPGA season into two halves. Fifteen players from each half qualify for the ADT Championship, plus two wildcards who will be determined following the last tournament prior to the ADT Championship. The winner of the ADT Championship will again earn $1 million, the largest first-place prize in the history of women's golf.
| About the LPGA Playoffs and the ADT Championship |
|
The LPGA Playoffs, which culminates at the ADT Championship, is the first-ever playoff system in professional golf. |
|
The 2008 LPGA Tour season is broken into two halves, creating two races during the year that will increase the drama and excitement for fans and sponsors of the LPGA Tour. |
| |
The first half of the season concludes with the McDonald's LPGA Championship Presented by Coca-Cola. |
| |
The second half of the season concludes with the final event prior to the ADT Championship, Lorena Ochoa Invitational Presented by Banamex and Corona. |
Fifteen players qualify from each half and two players earn wildcard spots to complete the 32-player field at the ADT Championship. |
| About the qualification criteria |
|
Players can qualify for the ADT Championship via three ways: winning a designated “Winner Event;” earning enough ADT Points in either the first or second half of the season; or earning one of two wildcards. |
|
In each half of the season, there are 15 spots available. The first spots will be awarded to winners of Winner Events, while the remaining spots in each half will be awarded to the ADT Points qualifiers who are not otherwise qualified. |
|
Once the 15 spots from each half are determined, two players will be selected as wild cards. |
|
Winner Events |
| |
Winner Events are defined as all official LPGA Tour events with a purse of at least $2,000,000 as of the announcement of the LPGA Tour schedule on November 14, 2007 |
| |
Any LPGA member who wins a Winner Event earns automatic entry into the ADT Championship. |
| |
A non-LPGA member who wins one of the four LPGA Majors is not required to become an LPGA member to play in the ADT Championship. |
|
ADT Points |
| |
ADT Points will be derived as follows: 1 ADT Point is equivalent to $1 earned at all official events. |
| |
ADT Points are awarded to all LPGA members who earn money in official events. |
| |
Only LPGA members can earn ADT Points and qualify for the ADT Championship via the ADT Points standings. |
| |
Players qualify for the ADT Championship by accumulating ADT Points during each half of the season. |
| |
ADT Points will not carry over from the first half of the season to the second half; the ADT Points standings will be cleared following the McDonald's LPGA Championship Presented by Coca-Cola. |
|
Wildcards |
| |
The two wildcards will be selected after the qualifiers from the first AND second halves of the season are determined following the Lorena Ochoa Invitational Presented by Banamex and Corona. The two wildcards will be the top two players from the LPGA Official Money List following the Lorena Ochoa Invitational Presented by Banamex and Corona who are not otherwise qualified. |
