The LPGA T&CP membership has enjoyed unprecedented growth in recent years and boasts the largest membership of women golf professionals in the world. Through the development and implementation of innovative educational programs, the T&CP membership has established itself as a respected leader within the golf industry.

Long renowned for its world-class, one-of-a-kind teacher education certification, the LPGA T&CP now offers certification in coaching and managerial leadership. Once an individual completes the Individual in the Application Process requirements, she will become an LPGA T&CP Apprentice member and will choose which specialization she will pursue for her primary certification.

Class A membership status will be achieved on completion of Level I, II and III education, self study and evaluation requirements. Once Class A membership status has been achieved, a second or third specialization can be pursued. See the Membership Certification Process Chart for an overview of the certification requirements.

Eligibility for LPGA T&CP Membership

  1. Passed a Playing Ability Test (PAT) or PAT equivalency within 12 months prior to application 
    (Not required for A-2, B-2 membership),

  2. Be female at birth and at least 18 years of age;
  3. Have a high school diploma or its equivalent;
  4. Are currently "employed in the golf profession;" and
  5. Have been "employed in the golf profession" for at least three (3) months with an average of 20 hours per week.

Employment in the Golf Profession Definitions

"Employed in the golf profession" is defined as:

  • owns, operates, manages or works as an assistant in the operation or management of a recognized golf course, shop, club or practice facility;
  • engages in or supervises the teaching of golf at a recognized golf club, course, practice facility or at a recognized golf school;
  • is employed as a full-time golf coach at an accredited high school or two (2) year or four (4) year university or college;
  • is employed in administration, management, marketing, public relations, broadcasting, journalism or sales by an approved golf association, golf management company or golf publisher, other than which is primary clerical;
  • is employed in retail management or sales of golf products or services, and has primarily managerial responsibilities; or
  • is employed in management of a golf tournament of an approved golf association.

Current LPGA Tour, PGA or CPGA Class A members or equivalent members of an approved golf association that meet the above criteria are eligible for LPGA T&CP Class A-2 membership status. Current LPGA Tour Class B members are eligible for LPGA T&CP Class B-2 membership status.

Documents Required for LPGA T&CP Application

  1. A completed membership application packet, which includes:
    • Application form
    • Professional self-assessment form
    • Employment history  
    • Proof of playing ability test or an equivalency
      NOTE:  If using a PAT equivalency, then you must submit a completed rules test along  with a $150.00 PAT Equivalency Fee
  2. Two (2) letters of recommendation from members of a recognized golf association
    (e.g. LPGA, PGA, or USGA).
  3. Proof of high school diploma, equivalency or highest level of education.

Application to the LPGA Teaching and Club Professional membership constitutes "forfeiture of amateur status" (USGA Rules of Golf, Appendix III - Rules of Amateur Status 1.b.).

LPGA T&CP Application Process

  • When an interested candidate's application is received at LPGA Headquarters, she will be notified via mail if any components are missing.
  • If the application is complete, the candidate should expect to hear from the LPGA within six (6) weeks as to whether it was accepted or denied.
  • If the application is accepted, the applicant will receive a letter of acceptance, notification of membership education requirements, and a schedule of education programs.
  • The applicant will also be assigned an LPGA Member Advisor to assist the applicant with the membership application process and will be required to complete an orientation session with the assigned member advisor.
  • Individuals classified as an LPGA T&CP Individual in the Application Process (IAP) will NOT be entitled to membership privileges or use of the LPGA logo or name. To obtain full Apprentice membership, the IAP must complete the IAP requirements >>.
  • Individuals classified as LPGA T&CP Class A-2 or Class B-2 members must complete the Class A-2/B-2 requirements>> . It will be the individual's responsibility to complete all education program requirements and initiate contact with their assigned member advisor.
