2005 Solheim Cup unveils new e-commerce Web site for merchandise
CARMEL, Ind. - An assortment of 2005 Solheim Cup merchandise, including the official apparel of the U.S. Solheim Cup Team designed by LIZGOLF, is now available over the Internet at a new Web site: www.solheim-merchandise.com. Event organizers introduced the new Web site today.
"With the growth and increased interest of women's golf and The Solheim Cup(r), event apparel and merchandise will be very popular," said Kelly Hyne, tournament director of The Solheim Cup. "With this new Web site, we've made it easy and convenient for fans ordering merchandise and products associated with the 2005 Solheim Cup."
Apparel for both men and women is available. The Solheim Cup merchandise Web site features everything from Solheim Cup golf shirts to hats to t-shirts, as well as sweaters, visors, Solheim Cup logoed golf balls, a commemorative poster, umbrellas and much more. PING, a Solheim Cup sponsor, is offering a limited edition Anser(r) putter with The Solheim Cup logo etched on the bottom as well as a PING(r) shoe bag, the PING duffle bag, the PING carry bag and valuables pouch.
Also, The Solheim Cup commemorative coffee table book, highlighting the 15-year history in 188 pages and 200 color photographs, remains available in limited quantities.
Fans have their first opportunity to purchase the U.S. Solheim Cup Team apparel as designed by LIZGOLF. LIZGOLF by Liz Claiborne has designed uniforms to outfit U.S. Solheim Cup Team Captain Nancy Lopez and her 12-member team. The players will be dressed in LIZGOLF for the Opening Ceremony, all practice sessions and matches, all official Solheim Cup functions and Closing Ceremony.
"Fans who come to The Solheim Cup typically come attired in the colors of their team to show their pride, patriotism and team support," said Hyne. "Also, the event happens only once every two years and once every four years in the United States, so most fans see the opportunity to come to The Solheim Cup as a once-in-a-lifetime experience and want mementos to remember it by. We think the new Web site gives fans exactly what they need to prepare for and remember the most important team event in women's golf."
The 2005 Solheim Cup takes place Sept. 6-11 at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind. The Solheim Cup has been sold out since January 2005 with more than 100,000 fans expected on the grounds throughout the week. It is the first time the event has been a sellout in the United States.
Sport Graphics, which is located in Indianapolis and provides niche-printing services to amateur sport events and organizations throughout the country, designed and maintains The Solheim Cup's new merchandise Web site.
In addition to title sponsor PING, supporting the 2005 event as official partners are Indiana-based ACES Power Marketing, Cummins Inc. and St. Vincent Health; and associate partners are DSW, The Indianapolis Star, Merrill Lynch, Rolex and WISH-TV Channel 8.
The 2005 Solheim Cup is a joint venture between the LPGA and the Indiana Sports Corporation (ISC). ISC, celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2005, is a private, not-for-profit organization that represents Indianapolis in the national and international sports marketplace.
About The Solheim Cup
Sponsored by PING golf equipment, The Solheim Cup is named in honor of the company's founder, Karsten Solheim, and his family. The Solheim Cup is the most prestigious team event in women's professional golf. It is a biennial, trans-Atlantic team match-play competition featuring the best U.S.-born players from the LPGA and the best European-born players from the Robe di Kappa Ladies European Tour (LET). The U.S. Team leads the competition, 5-3, but Europe has won three of the four events held overseas and in 2003 regained the Cup they lost in 2002. The U.S. Team has never lost on home soil and will be looking to bring the Cup home in 2005. The 2005 Solheim Cup will be played Sept. 9-11 at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind. The Golf Channel will provide complete television coverage of The Solheim Cup. For more information, log on to www.SolheimCup.com.
