GUADALAJARA, México, Nov. 14, 2007 – Lorena Ochoa, Ochoa Sports Management and the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) today announced that the $1 million Lorena Ochoa Invitational Presented by Banamex & Corona will be added to the 2008 LPGA Tour schedule. The 2008 Lorena Ochoa Invitational will be played from Nov. 13-16 at Ochoa's home course, Guadalajara Country Club, and will showcase 36 players in a stroke-play format.
“It is an honor to host an LPGA tournament at the course where I grew up and learned this fabulous sport,” said Ochoa. “I am looking forward to welcoming the best players in the world and share this great event with my home city.”
Ochoa joins LPGA Tour and World Golf Halls of Fame member Annika Sorenstam as the only two players to currently host and title an LPGA Tour event. The 2008 Lorena Ochoa Invitational marks the 15th time in the LPGA's 58-year history that an LPGA event has been named for or titled by an LPGA player.
“Lorena is an icon around the world, but no where more than in Mexico. She is supported by fans, media and sponsors worldwide,” said LPGA Commissioner Carolyn F. Bivens. “We are excited to be able to bring the best of the LPGA to Guadalajara, to Lorena's home course, for an event that is committed to helping Lorena give back to her local community and deliver on her dream. I am proud that her involvement in the event, as well as those of her fellow LPGA stars, will help the youth, educational and health programs that she has supported through her foundation.”
The 2008 field will include the top-five players on the Rolex Rankings, the top-26 money winners off of the 2008 LPGA Official Money List and five sponsor exemptions. The deadline for qualifying is Oct. 19, 2008.
The event will benefit the Lorena Ochoa Foundation and will be televised on the Golf Channel. The competition days will be preceded by practice rounds on Monday, Nov. 10 and Tuesday, Nov. 11 and the official pro-am on Wednesday, Nov. 12.

About Lorena Ochoa's Foundation Born in 2004 from Lorena's drive to help the development of people with lower resources. For the past 4 years, the Foundation has been supporting different projects, such as health, sports, personal improvement and educational projects that affect children and youth in México. During this time we have noticed the educational gap that exists and for this reason the Foundation decided to give total support for children education. For this reason the foundation has adopted La Barranca, school which has 240 students and counts with an educational system where sports are an essential part of their education.
