Sorenstam moves a third ADT Championship qualifying spot to the ADT Points list

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Sweden's Annika Sorenstam moved an ADT Championship qualifying spot to the ADT Points list after claiming her third title of the season at the Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill. The Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill was a Winner Event, giving the champion an automatic spot in the ADT Championship; however, the champion, Sorenstam, had already qualified for the season ending ADT Championship when she was victorious at the Stanford International Pro-Am two weeks ago.

Paula Creamer sits on top of the first-half ADT Points list with 855,334 ADT Points. Jeong Jang, who tied for second last week, jumped into second place with 486,955 ADT Points, while rookie Yani Tseng fell to third place with 472,517 ADT Points. Ten players will qualify for the ADT Championship through the first half of the ADT Point List, which will culminate after the second major of the LPGA season—the McDonald's LPGA Championship Presented by Coca-Cola.

The following is an up-to-date First Half ADT Points list:

Rank Player Name ADT Points
1 Paula Creamer 855,334
2 Jeong Jang 486,955
3 Yani Tseng 472,517
4 Suzann Pettersen 417,527
5 Angela Stanford 334,491
6 Karen Stupples 327,836
7 Jee Young Lee 302,495
8 Christina Kim 277,352
9 Song-Hee Kim 267,401
10 Laura Diaz 264,607

Sorenstam and Rolex Rankings' number one Lorena Ochoa are the only two players this season to secure their spots in the season-ending ADT Championship. Ochoa secured a spot by winning the HSBC Women's Champions earlier in March. Ochoa, who is the reigning ADT Champion, also won the Kraft Nabisco Championship and the Ginn OPEN, the second and third Winner Events of LPGA Playoffs 2008. With her victories at the Kraft Nabisco Championship and Ginn OPEN, Ochoa moved two qualifying spots to the ADT Points list.

The LPGA Playoffs 2008, a yearlong competitive structure that splits the official LPGA season into two halves, culminates at the ADT Championship, Nov. 20-23, at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Fla. Fifteen players from each half qualify for the ADT Championship, and two additional wildcards will be determined following the Lorena Ochoa Invitational Presented by Banamex and Corona.

Out of the 32 spots in the ADT Championship, 13 will be awarded to champions of Winner Events, which are defined as official LPGA Tour events with a purse of at least $2 million. The remaining spots in each half will be awarded using a performance-based points system–ADT Points – to determine ADT Championship qualifiers who are not otherwise qualified.

The next Winner Event is this week's Sybase Classic Presented by ShopRite held at the Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, N.J.
