The LPGA Playing Ability Test (PAT) Requirements

The requirements for the LPGA PAT are: 
  1. An LPGA Rules Test – The rules test consists of 25 questions and is an open book test.  A copy of the test is available here.  Successful completion requires 70% or more.
  2. A Round of Play – One round of 18 holes on a course not less than 5,500 yards.
  3. A Target Score of:
            The course rating plus 13 for participants 49 years of age or less, or
            The course rating plus 15 for participants 50 years of age or above.
  4. Be successfully competed before LPGA member application submission, and
  5. Have been successfully completed within the 12 month period immediately preceding the date of LPGA membership application.

NOTE:  LPGA PAT requirements may be met by taking either an LPGA PAT or an LPGA PAT Equivalency.  Either test must be taken within twelve months before the date of your application for admission to the LPGA.

LPGA PAT 

Individuals taking the LPGA PAT will be required to:

  1. Hand in a completed LPGA Rules Test to the PAT administrator prior to taking the PAT;
  2. Provide proof of age and a photo ID to the PAT administrator prior to taking the PAT;
  3. Pay a registration fee in the amount of $150 per attempt.

LPGA PAT Equivalency

An LPGA PAT Equivalency may be met by one of the following means: 
  1. The first round of play for individuals taking the PGA Playing Ability Test (PAT); however, individuals must complete both rounds of play;
  2. The first round of play in a LPGA Regional or Final Qualifying School;
  3. A qualifying round or first round of play for the U.S. Women's Open;
  4. A qualifying round or first round of play for an LPGA Tour event;
  5. The Futures Tour aggregate and last-played tournament score; or
  6. A college team tournament season aggregate and last-played tournament score.

For a LPGA PAT equivalency to be accepted, the individual must:

1. Submit a signed letter from the event tournament official on association letterhead, which includes the following:
  a) The date of the event,
  b) The course name and location,
  c) The official yardage and course rating for the event, and
  d) The individual's official score(s) for the event (if more than 18 holes, it must state all rounds, but only the score for the first 18 holes will count).
2. Submit a $150 check or money order made out to “LPGA T&CP Membership” to cover PAT administrative fees.
3. Submit a completed LPGA Rules Test and proof of age if claiming target score of course rating plus 15.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How will I know if the testing is confirmed?
A:  You will receive confirmation from LPGA Headquarters via mail or e-mail.

Q: I shot an 86 on the first round of my PGA PAT, but carded an 82 on the second round. Will my second score count?
A:  No, we will only consider the first round score (18 holes). 

Q: I don't have a current handicap card. Can I still register?
A:  A copy of your current handicap index must be provided before you may register for the PAT. If you do not have one, please visit your local golf course and take advantage of their handicapping system.

Q: Am I allowed to bring a caddie?
A: The use of a caddie is up to the discretion of the site host. Please contact the host listed on the information form.

Q: Can I pay with a credit card online?
A: At this time, we cannot accept online payments.

Q: I have successfully completed my PAT.  What is my next step?
A: Please request a membership application, if you have not already done so, and gather the necessary supporting materials.

Q: How long do I have to apply after completing the PAT?
A: The membership application must be submitted within twelve months after completing the PAT or PAT Equivalency.

Q: When can I expect to hear an answer back regarding my application?
A: Please allow four to six weeks for your application to move through the approval process.
