When LPGA Tour players tee off this week at the Franklin American Mortgage Championship, they will be taking their stance between the same distinctive red "paper dolls" that spread their arms high atop the new Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in downtown Nashville, Tenn. The "paper dolls," serving as this week's tee markers at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, are considered a beacon of hope for children and families all across Tennessee.

Tour veterans Wendy Ward, Cindy Figg-Currier, Jackie Gallagher-Smith witnessed that hope first hand on Wednesday, May 12, when they received a special tour of the hospital, the beneficiary of the Championship, from Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, Harry R. Jacobson, M.D.

Upon entering the facility, Cindy, Wendy and Jackie were surprised how little the hospital actually looked or felt like a hospital.

Cindy views the "childrens only" play and learning area with Dr. Jacobson. "It was an incredibly inspirational visit," said Figg-Currier. "It really was a good reminder about what life is all about. It is so nice to know that the money raised by our tournament goes to such a special state of the art facility. "

Dr. Jacobson showed the players their butterfly garden, displaying the names of all of the financial donors to the hospital.

Wendy, Jackie and Cindy had the privilege of meeting Brett Evilcizer, a patient at the Children's Hospital. Brett showed the players one of his favorite games and told them about his upcoming graduation from high school.

The players next stop was to visit with 15-year-old Rachel Richardson and left her with some signed hats and golf balls.

"It was such an honor to be able to tour the hospital and meet some of the children in treatment there," said Wendy. "They are all so courageous and determined. We went there in hopes of inspiring them but I think it was the children who ended up inspiring us." Wendy pictured with 15-year-old Julian Fouce.

Before leaving the hospital the players decided to pose for one more photo with the signature "paper dolls" at the front entrance of the hospital.
