Welcome to my second Rookie blog! I am now writing at home while I have a week off between two events. I came back from Hawaii last week, got a couple of days of rest and now it is back to practicing and getting my game in shape for the MasterCard Classic.
My experience in Hawaii was good and bad. I was on the alternate list for both events so I needed to Monday qualify in order to get into the fields! I did not accomplish my goal of making it through but it was nice to get my feet wet. I got an idea of what it was like to travel around the globe and take my chances. Believe it or not, it was my 3rd trip to Hawaii in 16 months! My first was to film the Big Break V: Hawaii and my second was just last December for my honeymoon with my new husband!!! It is a long trip from Florida but thankfully I had the DVD set of “24” that I bought and watched on my laptop to kill time on the plane!!! What an awesome TV show!
The first tournament was at the Turtle Bay Resort, where the Big Break V was filmed, and it definitely brought back great memories. Except this time, I didn't have cameras following me 24/7 or get to stay in the beachfront cottages! I saw familiar faces again at the pro shop and it seemed like the local fans recognized me instantly! That first week, I stayed with the Dowds, who were kind enough to let me stay at their guesthouse. They are a great family that moved from California with three children, a pug, a cat and a parrot! I really enjoy staying with host families because not only is it more comfortable and less lonely than a hotel would be, but I also get to meet more interesting people with different backgrounds and interests! I do like that part of my job! I also got to meet the two Korean actors from the show “LOST”. They were invited to the tournament pairings party. Next time I have a long flight, I'm going to have to buy the DVD set of “LOST”!!!

The second week, I stayed in Ewa Beach with Keith Kodani's family! Keith and I met during the filming of the Big Break V. He was the one who provided us with 7 free pairs of FootJoy shoes (along with the Sign Boy!!!J). They were also a great family with a 7-year-old daughter and were natives of Hawaii! They pretty much adopted me for the week, took me to Waikiki, which I found to be so much fun, and to Honolulu to go shopping and get my haircut, etc. It was a nice distraction after having missed my opportunity to qualify for the Fields Open at Ko'Olina! I can say that it was the windiest conditions I've ever had to play golf in. Not only was I trying out some new equipment, but also, my game wasn't as well prepared as I had wished. It was tough but I have been staying positive. I have a long season ahead of me!!! During this week off, I've had the chance to figure out which equipment works for me so I cannot wait to go back out on Tour to play great!
I head out to Mexico City this Saturday for the Mastercard Classic. I've never been to Mexico, so this will be another country I get to visit thanks to my job! As I am still on the alternate list, I am planning on Monday qualifying. If I get into the field, my husband Brian, will come out and caddie for me! His birthday will be during the tournament weekend. I didn't want to miss it since we already had to skip our first Valentine's Day as a married couple!!! I have a photo shoot on Thursday with my main sponsor Universal Insurance so that should be a lot of fun!!! It is getting late and I need to go to bed! Thanks for reading!
Until next time,
