St. Augustine, FL, December 6, 2009 - For the fourth consecutive year, the U.S. Team held on to win the Handa Cup, buoying their overnight lead with 13 points in Sunday singles action that included five match wins and three halved matches. The World team rallied for the Cup winning four matches outright.

Two matches went to a one-hole, sudden death playoff but remained all square, earning one point for each side.

Big point winners for the U.S. side included Christa Johnson, who went undefeated to earn six points. Hall of Famers Beth Daniel, JoAnne Carner and Amy Alcott followed with five points earned.

On the World side, Jenny Lidback of Peru earned five points with two wins and a draw while Great Britain's Alison Nicholas, Australia's Jan Stephenson and Peru's Alicia Dibos each pulled in four points, helping the World close the gap to eight on the U.S.

In a show of sportsmanship among Legends, the final pairing, Rosie Jones and Jan Stephenson, agreed to halve their match after Jones's birdie putt on 18 squared the match and the Cup had already been secured by the U.S.

Both teams celebrated Dr. Haruhisa Handa and his company, International Sports Promotion Society, the tournament title sponsor, during the 18th green trophy ceremony.
