Vicky Hurst Rookie Blog Five

The year so far has been such a learning experience. Starting out, it was quite an adjustment with the travel, the media, and the intense competition. However, one aspect of the tour that has been harder to deal with is being away from my family and friends. Since the Navistar LPGA Classic in Prattville, Alabama, was the closest tournament to my home in Melbourne, Florida, a few of my friends and family came to visit and watch me play. Getting to spend this precious time with them made this tournament one of the most memorable ones yet.

My sister, Kelly, who I had not seen for many months was able to take a couple days off from her classes at the University of Florida to come watch. She flew up with my good friends John, Pat, Corey, Mario, and Jay. My friend, Caleb, also drove up from Tallahassee. Uncle John and Jaime drove eight hours from Charlotte to visit. They are all amazing fans, walking up and down hills every day in the hot sun. I could definitely feel the intense positive energy coming from them all week. This is an energy I think all players appreciate from their fans because it boosts confidence and focus.

Off the course, it was nice to relax and have some fun with my friends. We celebrated the Korean Thanksgiving one night at the Sheila Korean restaurant in Montgomery. We ate so much food, including my favorites: kimchi, bulgogi, seafood pancakes, and chapche.

Having my friends and family in Prattville with me made this tournament a very special one. I know I will always look forward to playing in this event in the future for that very reason.
