October 4th was a beautiful day for the 12th Annual American Cancer Society Cobb County Pink Ribbon Classic Ladies' Golf Tournament at the picturesque City Club in Marietta, Ga with a field of 144 women playing and 72 men as caddies!
The tournament was started by State Representative Judy Manning and by the late Ansley Meaders, the Mayor of Marietta and a breast cancer survivor. Though she successfully fought her battle with cancer, it was another illness that took Meaders' life and this tournament is in her honor! Manning is the honorary chairman and a great supporter of the event and plays every year.
LPGA Tour rookie Jean Reynolds was the celebrity guest the night before at the "Get Tee'd off at Breast Cancer" Party. Reynolds spoke to the enthusiastic crowd and then conducted a putting and sand clinic before being auctioned off to play with a lucky foursome the next day.
Through the generous donations received from a variety of local corporations, individuals, restaurants, stores, and other businesses, the event was able to meet its goal of $70,000 in the fight against breast cancer. Money raised will directly support local patient programs such as "Look Good. Feel Better" and "Reach to Recovery", as well as other educational and support programs in addition to national research.
