Lorena Ochoa won the pro-celebrity Star Trophy at Mission Hills Country Club in China last week. The 28-year-old pocketed $1.28 million for a two-shot victory over European Ryder Cup Captain Colin Montgomerie in a winner-take-all format. Other golf legends in the field included Annika Sorenstam, Greg Norman and Nick Faldo, along with celebrities Catherine Zeta Jones, Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant and Michael Phelps.
Ochoa, who retired from active play on the LPGA Tour in May, will host the third-annual Lorena Ochoa Invitational Presented by Banamex and Corona Light next week in her native Guadalajara, Mexico. Michelle Wie became a Rolex First-Time Winner at last year’s Invitational. Ochoa will tee it up as one of five sponsor’s exemptions in the event.
