Nancy Scranton Dominates Inaugural Women's Senior National Invitational
Scranton Shoots 4 Under to Beat a Field of 19 other Legends of the LPGA
TUCSON, AZ, April 25, 2010 - Nancy Scranton picked up her first individual title on The Legends Tour, official senior tour of the LPGA, with a three-shot win at the Women's Senior National Invitational, a Handa/ISPS Series Event and the first professional women's tournament in Tucson since 2004. Scranton had previously won twice on The Legends Tour when partnered with Christa Johnson in The Legends Tour's BJ's Charity Championship, a 36-hole team event.
On her way to a final score of a 4 under in the one-day, 18-hole event, Scranton birdied three of the five par 5's on the Catalina Course at Omni Tucson National. Scranton earned first place prize money of $15,000. Finishing in a 4-way tie for 2nd were LPGA Hall of Famer Patty Sheehan, 2011 Solheim Cup Captain Rosie Jones, Kris Tschetter and Sherri Turner, all at 1 under par.
From the first tee, Scranton's strategy was fairways and greens.
"You only have 18 holes in this event," she remarked. "My expectations were not high - I just stuck to the basics, tried to focus on fairways and greens." Scranton added that she hit a number of really good irons and putted well, which can certainly lead to birdies. "I had some good wedges into the par 5's and was really able to capitalize on those opportunities," noted Scranton.
"I figured, if I get hot - great!" smiled Scranton.
