To the golf world, Jennifer Song is a can’t-miss kid. After a stellar collegiate and amateur career that netted her U.S. Women’s Amateur and Public Links trophies, Song turned pro this summer and lapped the field by six shots to win her pro debut at the Duramed FUTURES Tour’s Tate & Lyle Players Championship.
To her friends and family, she’s a 20-year-old girl. She loves to read, pass time with episodes of CSI and Criminal Minds and go to the grocery store and simply browse. Yes, browse.
“My dad thinks it’s really weird,” she laughed. “I just like to look at all the foods in every aisle. I love food. A lot of people say they eat to live, but I live to eat.”
This week at the LPGA Hana Bank Championship Presented by SK telecom, Song, a member of the 2011 rookie class who’s playing on a sponsor’s exemption, will be featured in a vlog. Arming her with a Flip cam, we’ve turned her loose with the hope of getting a glimpse inside the ropes and behind the scenes of a tournament week in the life of Jennifer Song. We’ll showcase the personality of a player who’s been turning heads not only with her play, but with her generosity and perspective well beyond her years – she donates one-third of her winnings each week to a local children’s charity.
“I know it’s important to give back to people that are not my family because some people don’t have a dream,” she explained the decision she made well before she turned pro. “And helping them keeps some kind of dream in their lives.”
