Alena Sharp blogs about her recent charity tournament to raise money for Alzheimer's Research and Care.
On August 3, 2010, I hosted the 5th Alena Sharp Charity Classic to benefit the Alzheimer's Society of Hamilton, Halton and Brant. We had a great day as everyone enjoyed the round and the weather was very cooperative. Despite the rough economy this past year, we managed to raise about $8,000 for Alzheimer's. I am very thankful to the people who organize this event especially my dad and Mike Sells.
I am very thankful to Beth Bader, as she attended my event and helped me out with the clinic. And, as a surprise, we did a live auction before the tournament started and raised close to $2000 for Beth to play with one of the groups in the tournament. I am also very thankful to all my fellow LPGA players who donated golf balls, hats, and clubs. The players in the tournament appreciated getting a sleeve of balls at registration.
When the day was done, I felt very proud of the event. The Alzheimer's Society has a special meaning to my family and I, as my grandmother had this horrible disease. It is always nice to raise money for a great cause through a golf tournament. Thanks again to everyone who participated to make the day successful.
