Dear LPGA,
In the days leading up to the Sybase Classic back in May 2010, Amanda Blumenherst posted this photo on her Twitter account and the LPGA "retweeted" it. I follow the LPGA on Twitter and as soon as I saw it I knew exactly how I would use it.
My lovely wife, Wilma, was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer in February 2010. Fortunately, we learned of it early and she underwent a lumpectomy to remove the tumor. Following radiation treatment, she embarked on a regimen of chemotherapy the first week of April; she would ultimately have 6 treatments, one every three weeks. It was between treatments one and two that I saw Amanda's tweet.
I printed a copy of the photo and took it hope and gave it to my wife--she's a golfer and a fan of the LPGA as well--hoping it would serve to inspire her during her chemo journey. She was thrilled to get it and immediately posted it on our refrigerator, right next to her chemo schedule. It is still there today--she finished her chemo therapy August 5--and will likely always be a part of our life story.
Thank you, Amanda, for your inspiring message of hope in a simple picture!
Sincerely,
Robert Avsec
