Hello fellow fanatics, my name is Stephanie Kim and adhering to the first step of recovery, I admit I am powerless to the pull of the ancient game of golf. The "golforious adiectio" or more commonly known as the golf addiction is a widespread issue that transcends gender, race, and position in life. Presidents, CEOs, and ice cream truck drivers alike have haplessly hacked it around the course like your average weekend foursome. We just can't seem to kick the habit. A favorite phrase my old coach James liked to instill in me was to "do it again". Whether I just hit the perfect low cut 4 iron or a flying shrimp from the range to the tenth fairway, I should be able to do it again. Therein lies the foundation of my all consuming obsession with golf - the inexplicable allure of a challenge.
I just finished playing in the LPGA State Farm Classic in Springfield. I got paired with Natalie Gulbis and Angela Stanford and my hands were shaking so much on the first tee that I couldn't tee the ball for a few extra seconds. Despite this, I proceeded to stripe it down the fairway and thankfully, the potentially scarring moment was averted. I was ecstatic that I had the opportunity to play with two veteran LPGA winners, but what Natalie and Angela didn't know was how close I was from spontaneously combusting. On a whole, I thought it would just be a messy situation if one had to reassemble me when they are trying to win a golf tournament, so I kept myself together. I garnered plenty of experiences last week and I'm excited to continue my season. Keep an eye out for my name, it'll be the 15th Kim down the list!!
