Deep in the heart of Texas

Angela Stanford has always dreamed of playing in a PGA Tour pro-am and that is just what she did on Tuesday. Stanford, a five time LPGA Tour winner, played in the Crowne Plaza Invitational’s pro-am at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, just miles from her home.

Growing up in Texas, Stanford expressed playing in this particular pro-am is something she has always wanted to do.

“Playing in a pro-am is something I have always wanted to do especially this one since I grew up in Texas,” said Stanford.

Stanford played alongside PGA Tour pro Cameron Tringale and three amateurs including former NFL player Jim McMahon and local chef Michael Thompson who is an avid supporter of Stanford’s foundation.

Playing in the Crowne Plaza Invitational’s pro-am gave Stanford an in depth look into what it is like from the amateur’s prospective. Stanford noted her main reason for wanting to play in the pro-am was to enhance the experience for amateurs during the LPGA’s pro-ams.

The structure of the PGA Tour’s pro-ams are slightly different than that of an LPGA Tour pro-am. On the LPGA Tour players play in a scramble, while on the PGA Tour every player plays their own ball. Stanford contributed to her team’s success with birdies on the par-4 sixth and par-3 16th.
