Sybase Match Play Championship

This week’s top three stories on the LPGA Tour - Sybase Match Play Championship
Can Suzann repeat? Last year, Suzann Pettersen and Cristie Kerr took the championship round of the Sybase Match Play to the 18th hole as Pettersen clinched the win with a dramatic 15-foot birdie putt. She recorded her seventh LPGA Tour victory and went on to win the Safeway Classic Presented by Coca-Cola a few weeks later. It’s been a slow start for Pettersen this season but she has managed to consistently stay in the top-25 with a season-best, sixth-place finish at the LPGA LOTTE Championship. Will Hamilton Farm Golf Club be her good luck charm to kick off the rest of the 2012 season?
Looking for a break through: Several players are on the verge of a break through this week. With Yani Tseng leading the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings by a substantial amount, many players are hoping to steal a win away from Tseng this year. Some of these players include some of the top long-standing veterans like No. 3 Suzann Pettersen, No. Cristie Kerr and No. 11 Paula Creamer. Each of the players has placed consistently in the top-25 so far this season but have struggled to stay in the top-10. Only time will tell when these three will be in the winner’s circle again.
Rookie on the rise… So Yeon Ryu has proven she can compete with the big dogs this season as she leads the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year race by over a hundred points with 353 points. She is the only rookie in the field this week at Sybase Match Play, so all eyes will be on her. She has three top-5 finishes this year including a tie for second at the season opener in Australia. The 2011 U.S. Women’s Open champion is searching for her second LPGA win - and first as an LPGA member - this week. She goes head-to-head with Karin Sjodin in the first round of the match-play event.
