A look at some of the top player picks for the CME Group Titleholders, the final event of the 2013 LPGA season. The tournament, in Naples, Fla., begins on Thursday:
- Stacy Lewis: Lewis came very close to making the Rolex Player of the Year race even closer as she lost two events over the last month on the final hole of the tournament (Reignwood Classic and Lorena Ochoa Invitational). That’s a difference of 36 potential points (30 is awarded for first, 12 for second). So don’t be surprised if she uses that as incentive to wrap up the Vare Trophy this week.
- Na Yeon Choi: The defending champion hasn’t won since this season-ending event in 2012. However, the tournament brings back good memories as she has a tie for fourth, a win and is a cumulative 20-under par at two separate courses.
- Suzann Pettersen: Pettersen can move to No. 1 in the world with a victory, a longtime goal for the Norwegian. She’s also paired with No. 1 Inbee Park and No. 3 Stacy Lewis in the first round. All three have a shot at the earnings and scoring titles.
- Lydia Ko: Ko is stepping into a different mindset starting this week as she makes her professional debut. Paired with similar – but already professional – young phenoms Michelle Wie and Jessica Korda, she will be able to further understand her future. Ko has played only two LPGA events in the last three months, which might seem like a deterrent, but she won the CN Canadian Women’s Open in August and placed second at The Evian Championship in September.
