- Angela Stanford: There are quite a few Texas connections in this week’s tournament, but none bigger than five-time LPGA winner Stanford. She lives in Saginaw and is a Fort Worth native (30 minutes west of Las Colinas), graduated from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and is a huge Texas Rangers baseball fan. Plus, she practices at Shady Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth, Ben Hogan’s old club.
- Stacy Lewis: Lewis is a native of The Woodlands, Texas (suburban Houston) so she too is having a Lone Star State homecoming this week. Even more so, she is looking to regain the top spot in the Rolex Women’s World Rankings from Inbee Park, who moved to No. 1 during an off week two weeks ago.
- Paula Creamer: Creamer has five consecutive top-20 finishes this season entering the tournament and is primed to break a victory drought that dates back to the 2010 U.S. Women’s Open.
- Gerina Piller: The Plano, Texas, resident and University of Texas-El Paso graduate continues the Texas theme. But she also has picked up her game in her fourth LPGA season, with two top-10 finishes and no missed cuts. Plus, she may be inspired by husband Martin Piller’s T11 finish on the Web.com Tour two weeks ago in Midland, Texas.
