A look at some of the top player picks for the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, scheduled to begin Friday at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Ark.:
Stacy Lewis: When Lewis was an amateur at the University of Arkansas she fired a first-round 65 at Pinnacle Country Club and the rest of the 2007 tournament was rained out, leaving Lewis with an unofficial victory. Since then, Lewis has finished in the top 10 twice and has nine consecutive rounds under par. What better place for her first win since March.
Ai Miyazato: Miyazato has played in five tournaments at Pinnacle Country Club and has placed in the top 10 each time, highlighted by last year’s victory. She is 46-under par, 13 of her 15 rounds have been under 70 and she has only one round over par (a 72 in 2009). So it’s not as if Miyazato will suddenly forget how to play Pinnacle successfully.
Inbee Park: The game’s hottest player (four wins this season) got the hang of Pinnacle Country Club last year with rounds of 67-68-68 to finish tied for fourth, one year after finishing with a 77.
Lydia Ko: Ko hasn’t made a sudden impact this year like last season when she won the CN Canadian Women’s Open to become the LPGA’s youngest winner. However, she finished the Wegmans LPGA Championship two weeks ago with a 69 and had a T17 finish despite opening with a 77.
