A look at some of the top player picks for the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic, a second-year tournament on the 2013 LPGA schedule which begins Thursday at Greg Silo Golf Course in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada:
- Inbee Park: As if Park needs more attention or motivation, she is paired with defending champion Brittany Lang and Jessica Korda. Last year, Park lost to Lang in a four-way playoff at Grey Silo. With a win, Park would tie the mark for most consecutive victories on the LPGA in scheduled events (four).
- Lizette Salas: Salas has had a breakthrough year highlighted by a playoff loss to Suzann Pettersen at the LPGA Lotte Championship in Hawaii. Salas is looking for her first career victory while trying to qualify for the Solheim Cup next month. She can take some inspiration from Lang, who won her first LPGA title here last year in the first Manulife tournament.
- Jodi Ewart-Shadoff: After getting married in January, the England native and former University of New Mexico golfer has finished T7 at the Kraft Nabisco Championship and T4 at the U.S. Women’s Open two weeks ago, her career bests. The 25-year-old Sarasota, Fla., resident is also second on the LPGA in Greens in Regulation this year at a 74 percent rate, just behind leader Suzann Pettersen.
- Brooke Henderson: Last year at the CN Canadian Women’s Open, 15-year-old amateur Lydia Ko made international headlines with her victory. The attention in Canada would be even greater if Smith Falls, Ontario native Brooke Henderson, also age 15, was in contention this week. Henderson made the cut as an amateur at the U.S. Women’s Open two weeks ago. At age 14 last June, she won a 36-hole tournament on the Canadian Women’s Tour.
