For the Love of the Fans: Lorie Kane

Hi,

The inaugural story for The Love of The Fans was the thank you story I submitted about the wonderful experience my wife Carol had when she met Lorie Kane. I note that the story is still posted and that is greatly appreciated.

I wish to provide you with a very positive update. As you may recall form the story, Carol had been stricken with breast cancer. She was in the very early stages of recovery when Lorie responded to my request and provided Carol with an inspiring life moment in 2007. Since that time, Carol and Lorie have managed to touch base once a year when the LPGA was in Phoenix, and after each meeting Carol comes away even more determined to stay well and play well.

First, I am pleased to report that Carol has stayed well. She remains cancer free (as do the other 63 women in her special protocol group) and despite some severe joint pain from her post-treatment meds, she continues to play golf. Indeed she is playing well!

So well that I am also pleased to inform you that today Carol recorded a "hole in one" at Lake St. George, our home course in Orillia, Ontario Canada. She aced the 145 yard 5th. on the South course. It is a blind tee shot and no one in her group saw it go in, but when they got to the green, there her ball was in the cup. I just happened to be playing a hole on the West course that runs parallel to the hole she aced, and was lucky to be in sight and sound of the green and the celebration, and there to deliver a congratulatory hug. This is Carol's 3rd. "ace" since her meeting with Lorie Kane. We have three nines at Lake St. George, and Carol has now accomplished the coveted LSG triple notching a hole in one on each of the North, South, and West nines. The owners of the Lake St. George Golf and Country Club checked their records and discovered that in the 31 year history of the club, Carol is the only person to accomplish the feat of scoring Holes in One on each of the three nines that make up their 27 hole layout. A local television station picked up the story and Carol was named their Athlete of the Week and was featured on their sports news.

Carol believes very strongly that positive thoughts bring positive shots, and I have no doubt that the very positive and inspiring experience that Lorie and the LPGA provided for her have directly influenced her good health and great golf! For that I am truly thankful!

John Forrest (Carol's loving husband who has yet to record an ace!)

If you have a positive story to tell, feel free to email it to feedback@lpga.com and it will be posted in the For the Love of the Fans section.
