Marilynn Smith, co-founder of both the LPGA and the LPGA Teaching & Club Professionals (T&CP), hosted the first annual Marilynn Smith LPGA Charity Golf Classic on Sept. 21. The event, which supported the Marilynn Smith Golf Scholarship through The LPGA Foundation, featured 25 LPGA professionals and celebrities in a scramble format at Pebble Creek's Tuscany Falls Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz. Major contributors included the Mariposa Foundation, Rolex, U.S.A and presenting sponsor Honorary LPGA Tour member Dolores Hope. LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame member and the 2009 Marilynn Smith Classic Honoree Kathy Whitworth, was joined by Betsy King, Hollis Stacy, Sherri Turner, Judy Dickinson, Shelly Hamlin, Anne Marie-Palli, Tina Barrett, Tina Tombs, Jackie Bertsch, Susie Corona, Stephanie Farwig, Shirley Furlong, Ellie Gibson, Melissa McNamara Leuellen, Caroline McMillian, Penny Pulz, Pam Wright, Peggy Gustafson, Gladys Lee, Jan Roberts, Mark Baker, Bill Barnard, Butch Baird, Mark Lewis, Hall of Fame Caddie Master Don Bobillo, Alexis Monet Flores, LPGA Founder Shirley Spork and former LPGA Commissioner Carolyn Bivens.
The Marilynn Smith Scholarship supports young women who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and community involvement, and plan to continue to play competitive golf at an accredited college or university.
