Porsche Sweepstakes Winner experiences LPGA Tour Championship

Sara won the Drive for Excellence Sweepstakes Presented by Porsche Panamera which included a trip for four to the LPGA Tour Championship, a private clinic with Jill McGill, a dinner with Anna Rawson and a meet-n-greet with Katherine Hull.

We could feel the level of intensity in the competition pick up today. Not surprising since they faced a second cut down to 30 players at the end of today's play. Several of our favorites did not make the cuts, including Jill McGill, Anna Rawson, Jiyai Shin, Paula Creamer, Mi Hyun Kim, Vicky Hurst, and Helen Alfredsson.

Sara, Ed, Rosemary and I followed the threesome of Katherine Hull, Morgan Pressel, and Julieta Granada. We were very impressed by Katherine at a meet-and-greet session the previous afternoon, and she was very much in the mix today, so we followed her group pretty much all day, with a few quicks looks at the groups before and behind them. Although all three women played brilliantly at times, all three experienced some bad holes and none could shoot in red figures today. They are all still in contention though, and maybe someone will get these fast, undulating greens figured out and shoot a low score on Sunday. It's still within reach of a good number of players to make a move and take the trophy.

Besides the amped-up level of Saturday's round, we saw so many of the well-known pros giving generously of their time to the fans. These gracious ladies sign TONS of autographs every week, but have been so kind and cordial this week, under the pressure of a top-level event. The level of interaction with the fans is a great asset to the tour and adds to the color and personality these amazing athletes bring to the game of golf. We also watched as Morgan Pressel walk with her arm around Jiyai Shin as Jiyai left the course after missing the final cut. Morgan was consoling a despondent-looking Jiyai, and anyone watching could see the affection and level of camaraderie present between these two stars of the tour.

The accomodations here at the Villas at Cypress Creek are spacious and comfortable and right on the course, making it very easy to be here for all four days of the tournanment. Thanks to the LPGA and Porsche for a heckuva swell time and a beautifully executed tournament.

Today we watched our LPGA ambassadors play golf. In the morning we walked with Anna Rawson and enjoyed her golf immensely. When she finished she spent time with us and signed our caps. We then met Katherine Hull and really enjoyed her Australian sense of humor. Next we caught up with Jill Mcgill and walked with her until darkness stoped play. We are all extremely impressed by the fact that at a time when these ladies are in competition mode, they can still reach out to us and make us all feel part of the LPGA experience. They are warm, personable and funny. Wonderful ambassadors for the tour and a credit to their sport.

What a fabulous day of awesome entertainment provided by the LPGA and Porsche. I have been a huge fan of LPGA for many years. I feel so blessed to be here at Grand Cypress with my husband, Andy and our great friends Ed and Rosemary watching the Girls Rock in person. We walked the course with my most favorite player, Jiyai Shin; Andy’s most favorite player, Paula Creamer; and all of our favorite player, Cristie Kerr. We were treated to a much-longer-than-was-required teaching session with effervescent Jill McGill. Jill worked with us on our fundamentals, told us great jokes and generally charmed all four of us with her warmth and personality. She was very patient with my neophyte game and grip. To top off an already great day, it was arranged for us to have dinner with not just Anna Rawson but also with one of the LPGA founders/legend Louise Suggs. To hear the “war stories” from Louise about the early days of LPGA and how she paved the road for the past players like Nancy Lopez whom we just happened to encounter and the current players including Anna was priceless. The LPGA has exceeded our expectations and we will cherish the 1st day at LPGA Tour Championship. We are looking forward another day watching the Girls Rock!
