My name is Mallory Blackwelder and I am about to begin my rookie season as a touring professional. I will be playing on the LPGA Tour, Ladies European Tour, and Duramed FUTURES Tour this year. I just wanted to tell you all a little bit about myself!
As some of you may know, my mom, Myra Blackwelder, played on the LPGA Tour also. She was Rookie of the Year in 1980 and played full time until 1992 when my brother Myles and I started school. We are actually the first mother - daughter members of the LPGA. That is something I'm very proud of! :)
My dad has also been very involved with LPGA Tour life. He has caddied for several years for some of the best players in the game. He's caddied for Dottie Pepper, Cristie Kerr, Natalie Gulbis, and Juli Inkster. This year, he will be caddying for me. I feel so blessed to have him traveling with me this year and to have his experience as a caddy. Not only will I not be as homesick, but his experience throughout the years is going to be extremely helpful for me adjusting to tour life.
Last May, I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Marketing. I started my college career and played golf at the University of Florida and transferred to Kentucky when my mom was hired as the Women's Golf Coach. Considering I went to both schools for two years, I'll have to say that I am definitely a Wildcats fan, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for the Gators! (Sorry Cats fans, but its true!)
I have been able to go to a few Kentucky basketball games in the off season while I've been at home, and I must say they are an exciting team to watch! Coach Calipari has done an AMAZING job, and I will be cheering for them to go all the way in March!
Throughout the off season after all of the Q-Schools, I have been at home in Lexington, Kentucky working a part time job and relaxing. I wanted to give my mind and body a break because back to back-to-back Q-Schools was a really grueling process! I am really excited to get the 2010 season going, and my debut is going to be the LET event in Morocco. It is March 18-20.
Thank you all for your support this year. It means a lot! I am on Twitter so follow me! @MalBlackwelder.
And I also have a website I will be updating throughout the season with pictures, videos, and results from this season. It is www.malloryblackwelderontour.com.
I will be updating you again soon!
