For the Love of the Fans: Morgan Pressel

Tickled Pink to Meet Morgan Pressel!

Fighting breast cancer has never tasted so good! For the 10th year in a row, Panera Bread is offering bagels in the shape of pink ribbons. Not only are the bagels delicious, but the popular bakery chain donates 10 percent of the proceeds from the sales of the special Pink Ribbon bagels to Breast Cancer Awareness. Now, eating bagels flavored with cherry chips, dried cherries, dried cranberries, vanilla, honey and brown sugar is a tough job. However, as a concerned citizen, I was prepared to do my part.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered the hero of the U.S. Solheim Cup team behind the register at my local Panera Bread restaurant in Boca Raton, Florida. I was absolutely tickled pink to meet her! Morgan Pressel's statistics on the LPGA Tour aren't the only thing that is amazing. Though she's only 23, Pressel has already raised over $2 million for charities here in South Florida. As many fans know, Morgan was only 15 when she lost her mother to breast cancer. My heart really goes out to her for that. Though I haven't lost any relatives to breast cancer, my father died of pancreatic cancer -- and he was the one who introduced me to the game of golf.

My golf hat is off to Morgan Pressel for helping to save women's lives by promoting early detection. I also respect her for helping Panera Bread kick off breast cancer month. Though making an appearance would have been enough, Morgan rolled up her sleeves and helped make the bagels. Then she worked the register for over an hour. I bought two of the bagels Morgan helped make, and should add that she graciously took the time to sign my Callaway hat.

As my late father would have put it, Morgan Pressel is a "true class act!" I am so proud to share the same hometown with this golfing prodigy! I am certain that Morgan will shatter many more records in her brilliant career on the LPGA, but it is my personal opinion that she is a winner before even stepping up to the tee box.
