Dear Katherine (Hull),
I have no words that can completely express my feelings and thoughts at this point, but I wish to immensely thank you for spending those precious 10-15 minutes talking to my daughter while we met you at the Evian Masters Junior Cup prize distribution ceremony this July 2011. Thanks for being so humble and approachable and taking the time to speak to my 13-year-old Aditi Ashok from India while there.
I write to you now because both Aditi and I thought of you almost exactly a month after we met you. On the 17th August 2011, soon after Aditi had finished her first round, a 2-under-par 70 during the Indian Professional Women's Tour here at the Karnataka Golf Association, Bangalore, we were both thinking of you. She played as an amateur and had a one-stroke lead after day one.
This was her first under-par round, a bogey-free round for the first time too. She was leading by one stroke after day two as well. She also played her first level-par round on the last day and she finished +2 (218) for the three-day tournament and this has been her best finish ever. In fact, she was riding on a two-stroke lead on the last day till the 16th hole, but had a bogey on 17 and a bogey on 18 and carded a 72. So with (70, 76, 72) the three day total of 218, there was a playoff because there was a pro who had also finished 218. There came a first-ever playoff that Aditi had to play. The playoff went on for five holes and Aditi lost when the pro made a birdie and Aditi missed her birdie and saved par!!
Katherine, meeting you was special!! Your simple, yet profound, advice seems to have made way into my daughter's heart and we love you! Thank you! I will always be reminded of you when we recall this special milestone of Aditi. At the age of 13, her maiden attempt as an amateur in a pro event and leading right from day one until the very end, first under par round, first par round, first bogey-free round, playoff for the first time and as an amateur facing a pro at the playoff. It has been a very very special week in all, and it felt like you were here too.
We wish you too all the very best!
