ROGERS, AR - Former University of Arkansas golfer Lucy Nunn and Ladies European Tour member Maria Verchenova have been named sponsor's exemptions to the P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship presented by John Q. Hammons. This will be Nunn's first LPGA event since earning one of the final two spots in last year's field, while Verchenova will be playing her first LPGA Tour event inside the United States. The official LPGA Tour event is upcoming September 7 - 13 at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers.
Every LPGA Tour event is allowed two sponsor's exemptions which are used at the discretion of tournament management and corporate partners. The exemption is used for golfers not fully qualified for the event and guarantees them a playing spot in the field.
Nunn paced the Razorbacks to four consecutive NCAA Regional appearances and two NCAA Championship appearances during her career at Arkansas. She posted a career-best tie for seventh at the 2008 Southeastern Conference Championships and tied for 23rd at the NCAA Championships. Nunn earned her first collegiate win at LSU this spring and has several solid amateur performances under her belt, including a victory at the 2008 Women's Southern Amateur Championship.
The Moscow-born Verchenova is the first Russian woman playing full-time on the Ladies European Tour. The P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship will be her first full field LPGA Tour event on U.S. soil. As an amateur, Verchenova won numerous titles across Europe, including the Russian Amateur in 2004 and 2006. She was named the Best Russian Golfer (2004, 2006) and was also a member of the Russian World Cup Team (2000-2006). After her success in the amateur ranks, Verchenova completed Ladies European Tour's Qualifying School and earned her full Tour card in 2007. In 2009, she became the first Russian woman to participate in the RICOH Women's British Open.
