MST GOLF PLEDGES SUPPORT TO BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

October 21, 2010 – October marks the recognition for worldwide breast cancer awareness. MST Golf announced support to this noble cause with the unveiling of MST Golf Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign at a press conference held today at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, venue of the inaugural Sime Darby LPGA Tournament.

At the press conference, MST Golf affirms its’ commitment with a pledge of RM100,000 donation to CARIF (Cancer Research Initiative Foundation) and BCWA (Breast Cancer Welfare Association) through MST Golf Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign.

Coinciding with the tee-off of the first-ever LPGA tournament in Malaysia, the campaign begins effectively today and runs over the next 12 months until next year’s tournament. MST Golf will be donating RM5 to CARIF and BCWA on each piece of LPGA shirt, Antigua men and ladies shirt, each box of Wilson Staff men DX2 golf balls and Wilson Staff Ladies Hope golf balls purchased by customers. This campaign will run in all 43 MST Golf retail locations throughout Malaysia where the campaign message will be displayed to create awareness to golfers and general public.

“This would be the second time MST Golf is campaigning for the breast cancer awareness. MST Golf ran a similar campaign with BCWA in 2008. We hope through our new extended campaign, Malaysians will be more aware of the number one cancer killer in Malaysia as early detection and treatment has proven to save lives. As golf is an affluent sport in Malaysia and played mainly by corporate captains, decision makers and managers, we hope to entice more companies and individuals through our Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, to come forward and contribute in their own way to this good cause,” commented Ng Yap, Chief Executive, MST GOLF.

Information provided by CARIF and BCWA indicates breast cancer is the most common overall cancer as well as the most common cancer accounting for 30% of all new cancer cases in women in Malaysia. One out of 20 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. The 5 year survival rates for the breast cancer is 82% for stage 1, 72% for stage 2, 40% for stage 3 and 13% for stage 4.

“MST Golf shares the same advocacy on charity drive towards breast cancer awareness with Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia Tournament and LPGA. MST Golf Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign is a collaborative project with our partners including LPGA, Antigua and Wilson Staff. This collaboration correlates with our involvement in Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia Tournament as the Official Retailer, Official Ball with Wilson Staff and Official Apparel with Antigua.” added Mr Paul Gibbons, Group Marketing Director, MST Golf.

The press conference received a tremendous support from members of the media, players, Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia organizers, LPGA, CARIF and BCWA. Distinguished guests gracing the event include Datuk Tunku Badlishah from Sime Darby, Mr. David Higdon from LPGA, Professor Dr Teo Soo Hwang from CARIF and Ms Ranjit Kaur from BCWA.
