CARLSBAD, Calif., March 9, 2010 - The Kia Classic Presented by J Golf announced today that it has given a sponsor exemption to Tiffany Joh, a Rancho Bernardo native beginning her first full year on the Duramed FUTURES Tour, the LPGA's developmental tour.
Joh was the medalist at last fall's Duramed FUTURES Tour qualifying tournament and previously starred at UCLA, where she tallied 23 top-10 finishes in her collegiate career (2005-09). She played for the U.S. Curtis Cup team in 2008 and finished tied for 21st as an amateur in last year's Kraft Nabisco Championship.
Joh was the first four-time NCAA All-American in UCLA women's golf history. She won twice in college, recording a stroke average of 72.0 over 124 rounds. At Rancho Bernardo High School, she was twice named to the All-North County team, and in 2002, she was selected the San Diego Junior Golf Association Player of the Year.
"We're thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity to Tiffany," said Jim Felechner, Tournament Director for the Kia Classic Presented by J Golf. "Tiffany's professional career is just taking off, but if her success in junior golf, high school and college is any indication, she'll do well on the Duramed FUTURES Tour and soon be a regular on the LPGA Tour."
Two other sponsor exemptions for the Kia Classic Presented by J Golf will be announced soon.
The $1.7 million Kia Classic Presented by J Golf, set for March 22-28 at La Costa Resort and Spa, is a full-field, 144-player event that will bring the best names in women's golf to San Diego for the LPGA's first 2010 event in the United States. Tickets are available at www.lpgalacosta.com or by calling 1-888-SEE-LPGA.
