Laura Davies: legend!

By Matt Cooper, Golf365

Last Sunday morning I made myself a good coffee, poured milk over my crunchy nut cornflakes and then turned on my laptop in order to catch up with the overnight golf news.

When I learned that Laura Davies had triumphed in the New Zealand Open - the 73rd title of her career - I grabbed my LET media guide and read through her entry.

By the time I had finished reading her accomplishments I had cold coffee and my cornflakes were soggy, but my admiration for Davies - already substantial - had grown.

I won't bother to embellish those feats because they don't need it, listing them is more than enough.

In 1985 she won her first tournament, the title Rookie of the Year and the LET Order of Merit.

Four victories, including the British Open (then not a major), helped her retain the Order of Merit in 1986.
