LPGA Professionals Join Amateurs for Par-3 Team Competition at Sybase Match Play Championship
Gladstone, N.J. - LPGA professionals and amateur golfers will join together on Friday, May 21 to compete in the Chairman's Challenge, a two-person team par-3 competition held during the 2010 Sybase® Match Play Championship at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, N.J. The Chairman's Challenge will pair 32 amateur guests with the 32 LPGA professionals who are eliminated during the first round of the Sybase Match Play Championship on Thursday, May 20.
The Chairman's Challenge will be held at Hamilton Farm's 18-hole par-3 Hickory Course. The Hickory Course, designed by golf course architect Dana Fry, is the only United States Golf Association-rated par-3 course in the United States.
"The Hickory golf course at Hamilton Farm is truly a hidden gem. Holes four, five and six wind around ‘The Cottages at Hamilton Farm,' 18 lots that the club is currently developing on the northern end of the property," said Timothy M. Bakels, Hamilton Farm Golf Club General Manager and COO. "The ladies had the opportunity to play the Hickory Course the last time they were at Hamilton Farm, and we are looking forward to have them back to play both courses."
Golf Channel handheld cameras will follow the action at the Chairman's Challenge and the competition will be highlighted during the network's broadcast of the 2010 Sybase Match Play Championship.
The Chairman's Challenge, which begins with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. on May 21, will be played in a best ball format and a team winner will be recognized. In the best ball format, the individual scores of the LPGA professional and amateur will be kept. The lowest score between the two will count as the team score. Handicaps will be factored in 100 percent for each amateur. In addition, a professional winner will be determined by the lowest individual pro score.
During the Chairman's Challenge, second-round matches at the Sybase Match Play Championship will continue on Hamilton Farm's Highlands Course.
