Yani Tseng to Defend her Title

World’s No. 1 Returns to Arkansas for LPGA Tour Event

ROGERS, Ark. – Tournament officials announced today that Yani Tseng has committed to defend her title at this year’s Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G. Tseng will also be defending her position as the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings No. 1 player at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, September 5 – 11.

Last year, Tseng trailed Michelle Wie by three strokes entering the final round of play but fired a 6-under-65 to overtake Wie by one. Her victory marked the third of the year for Tseng, which included two major victories: the Kraft Nabisco Championship and the Ricoh Women’s British Open. Tseng has maintained her momentum during the 2011 season with additional major victories at the Wegmans LPGA Championship and last weekend’s Ricoh Women’s British Open, along with two other wins and eight top-10 finishes for the year.

“We are excited to have the No. 1 player in the world, Yani Tseng, back to defend her title this year,” said David Shoemaker, the tournament director. “Tseng demonstrated extreme determination as she battled back last year to win the tournament down the stretch over Michelle Wie.”

Tseng had a career year in 2010 on the LPGA Tour as she recorded eight top-10 finishes along with her three victories. Tseng added majors number two and three in 2010 after she won the 2008 McDonald’s LPGA Championship in her first year of competition on the LPGA Tour. Her excellent year in 2010 led her to surpass Jiyai Shin as Rolex Rankings No. 1 in February and she has spent the last 25 weeks on top of the women’s world golf rankings.

Originally from Taiwan, Tseng turned professional in 2008 and has taken the golf world by storm ever since. Tseng has recorded eight LPGA Tour victories and has finished in the top-10 in 40 of the 85 LPGA Tour events she has competed in just four seasons on tour. Tseng credits her parents for pushing her towards golf from a young age and says her success is owed to their dedication and sacrifice for her career.
