Top Players from 2011 LPGA Event in Mobile Returning;
Advance Tickets Sales to Benefit Hope For The Warriors
Mobile, AL – March 14, 2012 - Maria Hjorth of Sweden will return to Magnolia Grove in April as reigning champion for the LPGA event in Mobile. Competing with her will be 143 other LPGA players including fan favorites Paula Creamer, Natalie Gulbis, Morgan Pressel, Christina Kim, Suzann Pettersen and 17-year-old golfing sensation Lexi Thompson. The Mobile Bay LPGA Classic is scheduled for April 23 – 29, 2012 on the Crossings Course at Magnolia Grove in Mobile.
Thirty-four of the top 36 finishers in the 2011 Avnet LPGA Classic last spring in Mobile will be back to compete in the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic. The entire victorious 2011 European Solheim Cup Team will be in Mobile, as will all of the U.S. Team, except one. Michelle Wie will be taking some time off after her graduation from Stanford. The current field of players is attached.
“Any time you have the top American players Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer, Stacy Lewis and Brittany Lincicome (all in the Top 10 of the Rolex Women’s World Golf Ranking), plus crowd favorites like Christina Kim, Morgan Pressel and Natalie Gulbis, we are in for a great week of entertaining golf in Mobile,” said Jonathan Romeo, Mobile Bay LPGA Classic tournament director. “This will be the first time Lexi Thompson will play in Alabama as a member of the LPGA. Thompson won the 2011 Navistar LPGA Classic in Prattville and took the golf world by storm,” said Romeo. “Besides showcasing great golf, perhaps the best part of the event is the philanthropic angle. Donations from the tournaments and its fans will benefit Hope for the Warriors in their efforts to assist wounded soldiers and their families.”
Advance Tickets to Benefit Hope For The Warriors
Half of the proceeds from all advance ticket sales will go directly to Hope For The Warriors. Tickets prices are $10 for a Good Any Day Ticket and $40 for a Tournament Week Pass. Those attending the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic will also have the opportunity to make donations in Ammo boxes located throughout the course and through Q R Codes on smart phones.
“These service members and their families have made tremendous sacrifices for our country and its freedom,” said Romeo. “We look forward to welcoming several of these heroes and their families to the tournament and collecting thousands of dollars for this great cause.” Hope For The Warriors is a national, nonprofit organization that supports wounded U.S. service members, their families, and families of the fallen. www.HopeForTheWarriors.org.
