Rolex Rankings No. 9 Lewis entered the fourth round with a two-stroke lead over No. 12 Brittany Lincicome, three shots ahead of No. 109 Karine Icher and four strokes ahead of No. 20 Karrie Webb and No. 38 rookie Lexi Thompson. Thompson worked her way up the leaderboard and battled for the top spot with Lewis throughout the round, but a tap-in putt for par secured the win to Lewis by just one stroke.
Lewis became the third American to win this season along with Jessica Korda (ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open) and Angela Stanford (HSBC Women’s Champions). She captured her first LPGA title at the first Major in 2011 at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, defeating Yani Tseng by three shots.
With several top players missing from the field this week, including Rolex Rankings No. 1 Yani Tseng and No. 5 Ai Miyazato, the leaderboard was full of other well-known names and rising starts on Tour. Leading the Rookie of the Year race No. 18 So Yeon Ryu finished the week tied for fourth at 12 under par. Along with Ryu were 37-time LPGA Tour winner No. 20 Karrie Webb, 2012 Kraft Nabisco champion Sun Young Yoo, 5-time Tour winner Brittany Lincicome and a leader in Hawaii last week Azahara Munoz. Natalie Gulbis also made an appearance on the leaderboard this week tied for ninth with Hee Young Park.
