It was a hot, steamy weekend for the LPGA Tour in Rogers, Ark., and not just the weather. Competition heated up in the third round of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship Presented by P&G with Rolex Rankings No. 6 Ai, Miyazato, No. 22 Mika Miyzato, No. 18 Azahara Munoz and No. 723 Veronica Felibert bouncing around the top of the leaderboard. But the one that came out as champion was Ai Miyazato with a one-shot lead. She secured her ninth LPGA victory in her six year tenure on Tour.
Miyazato entered the final round tied for fourth as Felibert lead the field by 4 strokes. She inched her way up the leaderboard posting 4 birdies in the front nine. A birdie on the last hole secured a first-place finish and $300,000 prize. She increases her career earnings to $6,749,255.75 taking the 21st spot in the career money list. With this win, Miyazato is projected to move from 6th to 3rd in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.
The rookies seem to be on the rise with impressive performances the past two weeks. Felibert’s second round in Rogers, Ark. left many feeling like they were fighting for second as she had a commanding lead heading into the final round. But her T4 finish earned her 70 points and jumps up to the top-10 in the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year race.
