(September 23, 2012; Taipei) Organizers of the 2012 Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship announced the staging of a new two-day qualifying event in which four wildcard berths will be granted the opportunity to compete in next month’s USD 2 million tournament that features an impressive all-star field made up of the top 68 players from the 2012 LPGA money list.

The 36-hole, stroke-play qualifying event will take place on the 27th and 28th of September at Sunrise Golf & Country Club, the same venue where the main tournament scheduled to tee off one month from now. The qualifier is designed to offer opportunities for both local and international players who could not qualify through the main field for this tournament. The qualifying event will bring the Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship in line with similar tournaments on the Asian swing of the LPGA tour.
A total of 13 professionals and seven amateurs from Taiwan will vie for two wildcard slots while four international players will compete for the remaining two wildcard berths. In addition to the 68 top LPGA players, 10 wildcard players, including six sponsor invites and top four players from the qualifying event, will complete the field for the 2012 Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship.

The Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship, the first and only LPGA-sanctioned event ever in Taiwan, made its debut with great fanfare in October last year. More than 67,000 fans showed up at the Sunrise Golf & Country Club, where Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings No. 1 player Yani Tseng lifted up the championship trophy with a four-day total of 272 (-16) strokes for a 5-shot win.
