Fundraising Event to Help Raise Awareness of the Potential Life-Saving Benefits of Umbilical Cord Blood and Funds for Education Programs Offered by Cord for Life Foundation
Orlando, Fla. (September 26, 2012) – On September 29, 2012, LPGA golfer Diana D’Alessio will join Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar to host the “Tasting on the Green” fundraiser to benefit the Cord For Life Foundation. Held at Fleming’s in Dr. Phillips, the event will feature a custom menu offering a diverse selection of appetizers and wine pairings, and guests will have the unique opportunity to challenge D’Alessio in putting green activities. A silent and live auction will be held on-site, as well. “Tasting on the Green” will begin at 7p.m. and ticket availability is limited. The event will help raise awareness of the potential life-saving benefits of umbilical cord blood and also fundraise for educational programs offered by the Cord for Life Foundation.
“I’m proud to be a part of the ‘Tasting on the Green’ event and to support a cause that is important to me,” said D’Alessio. “I hope that through this event we help people understand the value of stem cells and the importance of donating cord blood when giving birth.”
Each year, thousands of people are diagnosed with life-threatening diseases, such as leukemia and other disorders that can be treated with the stem cells extracted from the blood in the umbilical cord of newborns. As with bone marrow transplants, doctors can match cord blood to a patient and then transplant it to potentially save a life. If not suitable for patient use, donated cord blood may be used for medical research. Unfortunately, the umbilical cord is often discarded unless expectant mothers choose to donate the cord blood to a public cord blood bank or store the units with a private bank.
Tasting on the Green
Guests will enjoy delicious food and exceptional wines. The menu will include nine appetizers, and wine pairings handpicked to complement each menu item. Sample menu items include shrimp cocktail paired with Moet & Chandon Champagne and New Zealand Petite Lamb Chops paired with Morse Code Shiraz.
Sponsored by Jaguar Orlando, the “Putt for a Cause” activity will allow guests to challenge D’Alessio, Lorie Kane, Pernilla Lindberg and soccer player James O’Connor in a putting contest on an 18 x 23 foot putting green provided by Tour Links.
