Students benefit from lessons with Tseng, Gary Gilchrist
(December 13, 2013; Miaoli) Yani Tseng realized a dream last week when the Yani Tseng Swinging Skirts Golf Camp debuted in Taiwan. Tseng, who is one of the brightest stars on the global golf stage, masterminded the camp with the help of the Swinging Skirts Golf Team and the Yonglin Foundation. The camp took place December 12-15 at the National Garden Golf Club in Miaoli County, Taiwan.
The three-day “Dream Chasing Elite Camp” opened with 24 elite junior golfers receiving personal instructions from Yani Tseng, Gary Gilchrist, an international renowned golf teacher and one of Yani’s coaches, and Taiwanese coach Shang-Hung Kao. The junior golfers benefited greatly from both Gary’s instructions and the hands on experience shared by Tseng, who has played six seasons on the LPGA.
Yani Tseng was introduced to the world of golf by her mentor Shang-Hung Kao, and later received intensive training at Miramar and Sunrise golf courses, before heading to the US and Australia to hone her game. Thanks to her background, Yani knows exactly what junior golfers in Taiwan need the most: new approach, new thinking and new technique in line with international trends, as well as mental toughness buildup and communication skills.
Looking back on her path, Tseng feels she is very fortunate to have received such comprehensive training. However, Yani Tseng understands that not everyone is so lucky. Therefore, Yani has been very keen on following in the footsteps of her idol, Annika Sorenstam, to give back to junior golfers by helping them improve their game in the most efficient ways.
In addition to the Yani Tseng Swinging Skirts Golf Camp, Tseng has also lent her support to the AJGA Yani Tseng Invitaitonal presented by Swinging Skirts Golf Team, which will debut in 2014.

Yani fulfills her dreams and hit if off with students
Yani Tseng said, “The idea of opening a junior golfer training camp has occupied my mind for a while. Now that the 2013 season has ended, I am finally able to get down to it. Having spent several days with these elite junior golfers from around the island, I feel they are all very talented. It is my hope that they will all walk away from this camp feeling more confident and believing they have really learned something.”
The Yani Tseng Swinging Skirts Golf Camp also features an all-star teaching staff, including five-time majors winner Yani Tseng, who is making her teaching debut this week, US golf instruction guru Gary Gilchrist, Yani’s mentor Shang-Hung Kao, professional golfer Chao-Yu Lin who specializes in course management and Taiwan’s fitness expert I-Chuan Hung.
“I was very lucky to travel to the United States as an amateur to improve my game,” said Tseng. “Competing in Callaway Junior World and USGA tournaments helped to make me the player I am today. I only hope that my golf camp will help to make young golfers in Taiwan more interested in the game and more ready to play at a high level.”
Gary Gilchrist helps students reach their full potentials
“I think the most important thing about these three days is to get the students to reach their full potentials, giving them the why and what they need to work and building confidence in their game, “said Gilchrist.
The Yani Tseng Swinging Skirts Golf Camp was divided into two groups. The first group, made up of 24 promising junior golfers from Taiwan and China aged 12 to 20, enjoyed three consecutive days of intensive training, including oral communication, swinging clinics, fitness drills, course management and mental buildup. Yani also played some holes with these students to provide them with on-the-fly lessons and personal tips.
Another group comprised of 60 schoolchildren aged between 7 and 12 enjoyed the experience of golf through interactive games, teaching tools, fun putting games and swing lessons, with the aid of the coaching staff from Happy Kids Golf, Yani Tseng and junior golfers from the elite group.
A Graduation ceremony was held at the end of the camp with Yani Tseng personally presenting each junior golfer in the elite group with a certificate.
