A look at some of the top player picks for the HSBC Women’s Champions, the third tournament on the 2013 LPGA season which begins Thursday on the Serapong Course at Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore:
- Na Yeon Choi: Choi, the second-ranked player in the world, has three consecutive top-10s in this week’s event, including a playoff loss last year when Angela Stanford won a four-person playoff. Choi has recorded four consecutive finishes in the top eight on the LPGA, dating back to the final three events of 2012.
- Yani Tseng: Tseng has finished in the top five for three consecutive Singapore tournaments. That includes finishing with sub-70 scores each of the last three years, a trend she has followed this year with finishes of 66 and 63 in Australia and Thailand. The top-ranked player in the world is due to win, with five finishes of fourth or better in her last seven LPGA starts.
- I.K. Kim: Kim finished the Honda LPGA Thailand with a 5-under 67 last week and has fared quite well in Singapore – recording four top-eight finishes in five starts. She is also riding a streak of six consecutive rounds of par or better in the tournament.
- Lexi Thompson: Thompson shot a 69 last week in the final round to finish T12 in Thailand and is making her HSBC Women’s Champions debut. The longer Serapong course, a former Asian Tour site for the men, should benefit the long-hitting Thompson, who is sixth in Driving Distance at 267. 6 yards. She has played the par 5s in 17-under par thus far this season.
