LPGA Selects Schneider Electric as On-Site Weather Provider

April 16, 2013– Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management, announced today that the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), one of the longest-running women’s professional sports organizations in the world, has selected Schneider Electric as its on-site weather provider. Schneider Electric will support 18 LPGA events, representing all the North American tournaments including the Kraft Nabisco Championship and the Wegmans LPGA Championship. The LPGA will depend on Schneider Electric’s top-rated for accuracy forecasts to protect golf professionals and patrons from severe weather.

Lighting Predictions Help Ensure Player, Spectator Safety
Lightning has the biggest and most dangerous impact on both the operations and safety of professional golf events. With Schneider Electric’s next generation lighting safety technology, the LPGA can track lightning heading for a particular area in real time. Alerts can be provided automatically via email or text message when lightning strikes are detected within a pre-determined area; vital for spectator and player safety, as lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from the main storm cell. Combined with the presence of one of Schneider Electric’s experienced meteorologists on-site, the LPGA will have the most comprehensive state-of the-art approach to lightning protection.

The Symetra Tour, the LPGA’s official developmental tour, will also utilize Schneider Electric’s advanced weather solutions. The addition of the LPGA to the Schneider Electric portfolio further establishes the company as the leading provider of weather information to premiere golf events.
