Inbee Park takes on third title defense of the season Inbee Park will be taking on her third title defense of the year this week in Irving. Park came so close to defending in Thailand in her first start of the season at the Honda LPGA Thailand where she was runner-up and two shots of Anna Nordqvist. The 25-year old did not fare as well in her second and first of three major championship defenses at the Kraft Nabisco Championship. She only shot one sub-par round at Mission Hills and closed with a 75 on Sunday.

The Rolex Rankings No. 1 player who is known for her prowess on the greens said things have finally started clicking with her ! atstick the past few events. Park has had by no means a disappointing year so far to many people’s standards but the nine-time LPGA Tour winner is itching to break back into the winner’s circle. She has six top-10’s in her first seven starts of the year including two top-4’s in the last two events.

Lexi Thompson returns to action after first major championship win

This week at the North Texas Shootout Presented by JTBC, Lexi Thompson will return to action for her first tournament since making the leap into Poppie’s Pond after winning the Kraft Nabisco Championship for the first Major Championship of her young career.

Despite not competing at LOTTE and Swinging Skirts, Thompson has kept herself busy away from the course doing a media blitz which included stops by Morning Drive, SportsCenter and SquakBox on CNBC. Additionally, Thompson traveled across the Atlantic to the Puma headquarters, in Germany, for a promotional shoot with other Puma athletes, including Usain Bolt.

When Thompson does return to the course this week she will look to keep the momentum going in what has proven to be a stellar 2014 campaign with the victory at Kraft and a pair of additional top-10 finishes at the Kia Classic and Honda LPGA Thailand.

Amateurs earn spots through “Qualifying Shootouts”
This week in Irving provides several unique aspects to the event at Las Colinas Country Club. The “shootout” format of the tournament will consist of two cuts; the first will be made after the second round to the top-70 and ties, and the second cut will be made to the top-50 and ties after the third round on Saturday.

The tournament will also provide a unique opportunity for amateur players to tee it up against the best players in the world through two qualifying “Shootouts.” Annika Clarka (Pasadena-First Baptist Christian Academy) and Maddie Szeryk (Allen High School) beat out 22 other top high school players from the area in March at the High School Shootout. They were co-medalists after both finishing
with 71’s at Las Colinas.

Sammi Stevens (Hereford, Texas; University of New Mexico) and Brittany Fan (Pearl City, Hawaii; University of Colorado) were co-medalists on Monday after each carding 68 at Las Colinas in the Collegiate Shootout. All four amateurs will be making their first starts at an LPGA event.

Changes at the top of the Rolex Rankings
With her win at the inaugural Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic last week, 17-year old Lydia Ko mixed things up at the top of the Rolex Rankings. The New Zealander unseated Suzann Pettersen for the No. 2 spot in the world while Pettersen dropped down to No. 4 after a T28 finish last week in San Francisco. No. 3 Stacy Lewis stayed in the third spot in the rankings after battling it out with Ko down the stretch at Lake Merced, eventually finishing one stroke of the young Kiwi. Lewis’ game continues to be as consistent as ever and her runner-up finish last week was her third this season and sixth in her last 15 starts dating back to the Safeway Classic last season in early September.

Ko will be taking the week of in North Texas, setting up Lewis and Pettersen to make their strikes to the teen phenom’s jump in the rankings. Top-ranked Inbee Park doesn’t look ready to give up the top spot just yet and is coming of a third place finish in Hawaii at the LOTTE LPGA Championship and a tie for fourth last week at Swinging Skirts. This week marks the 55th consecutive week the South Korean has held the No. 1 spot in the Rolex Rankings.
