LPGA Golf Clinics for Women from MetLife Celebrate 20 years
of Empowering Women Through the Game of Golf
BOSTON, MA, June 8, 2010 - In 2010, the LPGA Golf Clinics for Women from MetLife is celebrating its 20th year of empowering women through the game of golf. The Clinics, founded by LPGA Legend Jane Blalock in 1990, are a series of one-day events hosted in 15 major markets that teach women how to use golf to develop business relationships and expand their network.
Blalock developed the LPGA Golf Clinics for Women with a mission beyond just teaching golf skills - she wanted to empower women to use golf as a tool for business. She originally conceived the Clinic concept after leaving the LPGA Tour and entering the finance industry. She noticed that she quickly became a sought-after playing partner for golf outings and realized that this played a critical role in her professional success. Blalock also noted that she was one of few women on the course and made it a goal to change this reality.
Since 1990, the Clinics have impacted the personal and professional lives of thousands of women and have now expanded to a robust online community where women can pick up tips and knowledge to get their games in shape and bolster on-course confidence. The Clinics also boast a strong corporate following with insurance industry leader MetLife filling the top position since 2008. Fidelity Investments, Nike Golf, Toshiba Business Solutions, Kraft Foods, American Airlines, FedEx Express and Golf Digest have all found the Clinics to be an essential component of their business development, marketing, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
"Every day, women across America are chipping away at the 'grass' ceiling," commented Blalock, who won 27 times on the LPGA Tour and currently serves as the CEO of The Legends Tour, Official Senior Tour of the LPGA. "No longer is the golf course the domain of just the businessman. Women are out there every day broadening their business, expanding relationships and taking charge of their own professional future."
Hosted by Blalock or another LPGA Tour Professional, each Clinic is attended by 125 executive women who are grouped together according to skill level and are led by an LPGA Teaching Professional. The LPGA Golf Clinics is the only series of its kind endorsed by the LPGA and is among the most well-respected programs for women.
"We will continue to work to empower women and will champion their use of golf to produce great dividends, both personally and professionally," added Blalock. "It's exciting to have been doing this for 20 years and we look forward to the next 20."
The Clinics kicked off their 20th Anniversary season in Los Angeles in March and then moved onto Dallas, Atlanta, Washington D.C., White Plains and Minneapolis. The remaining Clinics include the following stops:
