PHOENIX, Wednesday, March 9, 2011- The RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup announced today that Scottsdale Healthcare, a leading hospital system in greater Phoenix, has joined as a tournament sponsor. The sponsorship includes being named official medical partner of the inaugural event, the onsite medical/first aid provider during tournament week and sponsor of Scottsdale Healthcare Day on Saturday, March 19. LPGA players will visit the Thompson Peak Campus on Tuesday, March 15 at 4 p.m.
In addition, LPGA player Grace Park, a Scottsdale resident, will play for the Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation. Park noted that her mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and she wanted to choose a local nonprofit involved in cancer treatment and research. Her choice was easy knowing the capabilities at the nearby Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak Hospital and the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Healthcare.
The RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup will donate $1 million to charity, with $500,000 going to The LPGA Foundation and its LPGA-USGA Girls Golf program and $500,000 going to the top-10 finishers' designated charities. Park will be featured in Scottsdale Healthcare/RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup advertisements.
Scottsdale Healthcare Day will be held on Saturday, March 19 during the second round of the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort. Among other activities, the public will have an opportunity to meet some of the greater Phoenix area's leading surgeons from Scottsdale Healthcare and ‘test drive' the daVinci surgical robot used at Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak Hospital.
On Saturday, March 12, Scottsdale Healthcare will host the "Play Well" Free Family Golf Clinic, from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak Hospital, 7400 E. Thompson Peak Parkway. Grace Park will make an appearance from 8:30 - 9 a.m. Golf fans can learn more about their golf swing, get flexibility checks, blood pressure and skin cancer screenings and see a live broadcast of KTAR radio's Bunker to Bunker golf show. The Thompson Peak hospital's daVinci and Mako surgery robots will be on display, with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Stefan Tarlow explaining the benefits of minimally invasive surgery.
