Parksville, British Columbia (Friday May 27) – The Canadian Tour’s spring qualifying school wrapped up today in what is sure to go down as a history making moment in the world of golf. Isabelle Beisiegel, the 32 year old Montreal native became the first woman to successfully achieve status on a men’s professional golf tour.

“I still can’t believe it. It’s a little overwhelming” said Izzy following her final round. The former member of the University of Oaklahoma golf team who was competing in a Canadian Tour qualifying school for her third time shot a 4 under par 68 in round 3 at the Morningstar Golf Club to put her inside the number needed to earn status going into the final round.

Conditions on Friday in Parksville were tough with temperatures hovering around ten degrees Celsius with steady showers for most of the day. Playing in the third to last group she made two bogeys and no birdies on the front nine to turn at two over par for the day.

On the back nine Izzy would make bogeys on eleven and twelve and sit four over par for the day with six holes left to play. She then birdied the par 5 thirteenth before a stubbed chip from off the green at fourteen led to another bogey. She would make another birdie on the short par 4 fifteenth but her drive on sixteen found the water off the tee and led to another bogey.

Her tee-ball on the par 3 seventeenth left her with a 6 foot putt for birdie which she would go on to make and then ground out an up and down par on the eighteenth hole. This gave her a fourth round score of 75 and a tournament total of 296 (+8) which would be good enough to earn a non-exempt card.

“I went into today just trying not to get ahead of myself. I focused on thinking about where I was and not what could happen. I was assured in the fact that no matter what happened it was going to be OK.”

By successfully earning status on the Canadian Tour the former LPGA member and current Futures Tour member becomes the first woman to successfully earn status on a men’s professional golf tour via qualifying school.
