Moxness began her LPGA career in 1978 and carded her career-low round of 65 as a rookie at the Patty Berg Classic. She showed consistent improvement for the first five years and recorded her most successful year in 1982, posting eight top-10 finishes, including career-bests (T2) at both the Lady Michelob and Lady Keystone Opens. Moxness continued her streak into the 1983 season, registering three top-10 finishes in her first six tournaments. However, she cut her 1983 season short due to her first pregnancy. Her son, Matthew Elliot, was born in April, 1984 and Moxness has chosen to play a limited schedule since his birth.
