5’6”…Given name: Mae Louise Suggs…Nicknamed “Miss Sluggs” by Bob Hope…She started playing golf at the age of 10 under her father’s influence…Was named an Honorary Member of the LPGA T&CP membership in 1993…The 1995 McDonald’s LPGA Championship was dedicated in her name…In 1966, she became the first woman ever elected to the Georgia Athletic Hall of Fame…Was named among GOLF Magazine’s “100 Heroes” during 1988 Centennial of Golf in America celebration…Served as LPGA president three times (1955-57)…Raised the U.S. flag at the Opening Ceremony of The Solheim Cup in Scotland in 2000 and in Sweden in 2007 (along with fellow founder Marilynn Smith)…Recognized during the LPGA’s 50th Anniversary in 2000 as one of the LPGA’s top-50 players and teachers…Named the 2007 USGA Bob Jones Award winner…One of two honorees for the PGA Tour’s 2007 Memorial Tournament.
