Whitemire had surgery on her left hand in January of 1989 and hence participated in only 10 events. Her best finish was a tie for 49th at the Jamie Far Toledo Classic. Whitemire’s career-best performance was at the 1988 Cellular One-Ping Golf Championship where she tied for 14th with rounds of 70-73-76. During the second round of the 1988 USX Golf Classic she tied her career-low score of 69 which previously had been set at the 1986 du Maurier Ltd. Classic. Whitmire did not take up the game of golf until she was 19. In preparation for the LPGA she played on the WPGT Tour for three and a half years.
